Application Criteria

The role of the Young Performer Support Specialist is a position that utilises many skills.  To be a successful applicant on this course you will need to have extensive experience in various positions within the film and television/entertainment industry, but will also have experience working with minors, perhaps as a child acting coach, a child psychologist, a youth theatre director or drama teacher.  

Before entering formal training, candidates should ideally have experience in at least one of the following areas:

Foundational Experience


Recommended before training*

  • On-set or performing arts experience

  • Performing arts training

  • Creative play experience with kids

  • Teaching training and/or experience (preference to performance with minors)

  • Child development, or youth work

Beneficial training


Nice to have

  • Psychology and/or mental health training

  • Background in choreography or movement

  • Play and/or drama therapy

  • Social work training

  • First Aid (medical)

  • Disability training

Additional training requirements

  • Sexual harassment
  • Bystander intervention
  • Youth MHFA
  • Neurodiversity training
  • Bullying for minors
  • Unconscious bias
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training
  • Conflict resolution
  • Child safeguarding level 2 or equivalent
  • Police Clearance - enhanced

* we are anticipating that people may have different entry points into this role.  Ideally you will have a combination of these skills prior to joining the training.
